Robbins Avenue.
Formerly The J.F. Morris residence at 415 Robbins, it
was the location of Reese-Wynn-Winyard-McDermott Funeral Home
and now Lane Funeral Home.
Morris was a dealer in hardware and stoves in
the 1890’s. His store was located on State Street across
from the old Post Office. This was located between Little Annie’s
Inn and Jensen’s Hardware near the curve on the west side
of State Street. He was partners with R.G. Sykes, then
later bought Syke's share of the hardware store.
The Trumbull County Auditor lists the construction
date as 1901. However, the image of the J.W. Morris residence
from the Trumbull County Atlas has a publication date of 1895.

Reese Funeral Home in Niles is now operated
by Winyard, Wynn.
The Reese Funeral Home, established
30 years ago by the late Richard W. Reese, is today
being operated by two men who began their apprenticeship with
him shortly after its opening. Thomas G. Winyard and
Wallace L. Wynn joined the Reese Funeral home in 1938
and 1942 respectively.
After graduating from Niles McKinley
High School, Winyard graduated from the Cleveland College of
Mortuary Science in 1942. Following duty with the U.S. Air Force
in the Pacific Theatre during WWII, Winyard returned to his
work at the funeral home.
Wynn received his degree from the Cleveland College of Mortuary
Science in 1950, following his service in the European Theatre
in the U.S. Army during WWII.

Boccia Demolition workers, Richard Boccia
and Terry Dickson, tear down the former Lane Funeral
Home's Robbins Avenue location in Niles.
Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church, which can be seen
in the background, will use the property for additional church
parking.
The building dates back to the middle 1890s. |
