Belmont
Avenue Bridge.
Railroads commonly followed the rivers that provided
a level path and easy access to towns.
There are four bridges that cross either the
Mahoning River or Mosquito Creek as shown on the 1882 map.
Marked by the blue circle is the Niles-Carver
Bridge that spans the Mahoning River.
The replacement of the old Belmont Avenue Bridge
occurred during 1953, prior to the opening of the new Ohio Edison
electrical plant.
The Belmont Avenue Bridge is being torn down
by the Bridge Construction Company of Cambridge, Ohio in preparation
for the erection of a new, all-metal, two-lane span which will
cost $105,000.
Lee Bennett, superintendant for thr job, is seen

Pile-drivers for the laying of a new foundation
are to be brought in sometime this week. The new bridge will accodate
an 80 ton load while the load limit on the old steel-truss bridge
was 10 tons. |
